2016-06 International Lolita Day and a bit of history

Also known by shortcut IDL, is an international bi-annual event. It takes place on the first Saturday of June to sport summer outfits and the first Saturday of December for the warm winter outfits. The reason it's not on a specific date is so that it falls on a Saturday each time.

IDL was created in 2005 by user kittyhoot on LiveJournal. Sunday was also considered, to coincide with the day Japanese lolitas gather in Tokyo. Sunday is the only day off school in Japan, but in western culture it is a holy day, when a lot of people stay at home or go to churches, while Saturday is their day off, so IDL falls on Saturdays.

The purpose of the IDL is to get a large amount of lolitas dressed up on the same day and go out. To see and be seen.. to come together and draw new people to the fashion, and maybe run into a few other lolitas in the city you didn't know about. To take photos and share them worldwide and build a sense of blooming community.

Happy International Lolita Day!
